Trump Says Task Force Iron Gate Is in Full Force Against Iran

Trump says Task Force Iron Gate is “in full force and effect” in Iran and that, with what he called history’s greatest naval blockade, very little now moves into or out of the country.

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that a new U.S. military coordination unit aimed at Iran’s land borders was operating at full strength, pairing it with the existing American naval blockade of Iranian ports.

“Task Force Iron Gate is in full force and effect in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Coupled with history’s greatest Naval Blockade, very little gets into, or out of, Iran!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, signing the post “President DJT.” The White House Rapid Response account circulated a screenshot of the message.

CENTCOM Sets Up a Tampa Staff

U.S. Central Command announced the task force a day earlier. Adm. Brad Cooper directed the formation of Task Force Iron Gate on November 7 as an internal staff of about 20 civilian and military personnel based in Tampa, Florida.

The team is meant to coordinate with other U.S. government agencies to prevent the movement of advanced weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials and illegal revenue streams across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea, CENTCOM said.

“The establishment of Task Force Iron Gate reinforces the success of our ironclad blockade against Iran at sea,” Cooper said. “Strengthening CENTCOM’s collaboration with U.S. interagency partners will further constrain Iran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish their military.”

CENTCOM said the naval blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion in crude oil and that strict enforcement continues against ships entering or leaving Iranian ports. That figure is a U.S. military claim and has not been independently audited in the reporting reviewed here.

Trump’s Claim and the Blockade’s Limits

Trump described the task force as being “in full force and effect in the Islamic Republic of Iran.” CENTCOM’s own account places the unit at its Tampa headquarters as a coordination body, rather than announcing a new combat force deployed inside Iran.

His characterization of “history’s greatest Naval Blockade” and the claim that “very little” now enters or leaves Iran should be read as the president’s language. Earlier reporting has shown gaps in the maritime seal. Clash Report previously covered Iranian hardware imports through hidden defense-linked agencies and shipments of LPG and jet fuel that still left Iran after the blockade was imposed.

The comment also comes hours after Trump told CNN that renewed U.S. strikes on Iran were “highly unlikely” if nuclear and Hormuz talks progress. He has separately weighed whether to resume major attacks while keeping economic pressure in place.

Land Borders and Tehran’s Response

Iran shares land borders with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Türkiye and Turkmenistan. The new staff is also assigned to routes across the Caspian Sea, where U.S. media have reported Russian shipments of drone components and explosives toward Iran.

An IRGC spokesman, Sardar Mohebi, dismissed the American plan as “just a play on words,” according to remarks carried by Fars and reported by Al Jazeera. He said Washington had earlier claimed Iran’s economy would collapse within two weeks, “but we witnessed that this did not happen.”
