Germany Cannot Spare More Patriots for Ukraine Now, Pistorius Says

Germany cannot provide more Patriot systems for now without leaving gaps in its own defenses, Pistorius says. He urges other countries to step up air defense support for Ukraine.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rules out supplying Ukraine with additional Patriot systems for now, warning that Germany cannot replace them quickly enough to avoid unjustifiable gaps in its own defenses.

In an interview published Saturday, Nov. 7, with the Funke newspapers, including Berliner Morgenpost, Pistorius urges other countries to contribute more. Focus, reporting his remarks, describes Germany’s capacity to supply further systems as exhausted for the time being.

Replacement Delays Limit Transfers

“Anything we give now would not be replaced for the time being; that would create gaps on our side that we cannot justify,” Pistorius says, in a translation of his remarks reported by Focus.

Germany has already supplied several systems and many guided missiles, he says. The interview gives no numbered total for those deliveries.

“We cannot do more right now,” he adds, translated from the German “Mehr geht gerade nicht.”

His remarks concern Germany’s ability to spare additional Patriot systems for now, rather than announcing a permanent end to military aid or a suspension of interceptor deliveries.

Other Countries Face Calls to Contribute

Other states have contributed significantly less and should now do more, Pistorius says, according to Tagesspiegel’s account of the Funke interview. He names no prospective donor and sets no quota for additional batteries.

The issue will be discussed “very seriously” at the next Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in mid-November, he says, in translation. The report gives no exact date or location.

Earlier Transfers Provide Context

Reuters reported on Aug. 1, 2025, that Germany had delivered three Patriot systems and agreed to send two more in stages. Clash Report’s coverage of that transfer arrangement described the planned additional deliveries.

In a separate earlier story, Clash Report reported on Germany’s July 2025 request to the U.S. for two more Patriot units for Ukraine.

A Clash Report post dated Feb. 12, 2026, attributed to Pistorius a statement that Germany had given Ukraine five of its twelve Patriot systems. That earlier account is historical context, not an updated inventory from Saturday’s interview.
