The Vermont independent said a 5% tax on billionaires could fund $3,000 per person in a working-class family of four. That would total $12,000, he said.
“That is what a wealth tax on billionaires can do,” Sanders said in remarks shared by Clash Report.
Housing, College and Child Care
He said the same tax could also build 7 million units of low-income and affordable housing. Public colleges and universities could be made tuition-free, he added.
Sanders also said it could fund universal free child care for 13 million children. The pitch tracks his Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act with Rep. Ro Khanna.
AI Pause and Superintelligence Ban
In a related clip, Sanders said Democrats must enact a national moratorium on AI data centers. He also called for a pause on advanced AI development and a ban on superintelligence.
“A moratorium on data centers is exactly what the American people want,” he said.
After the Midterms
The remarks come after Democrats took Congress in the midterms. Sanders framed the agenda as what Democrats must now push.
Separate Senate bills he has backed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would pause AI data centers. Capitol oversight of Musk’s Starshield work in Ukraine is also under discussion.
President Donald Trump has blamed other factors for the loss, including the Iran war. Sanders’ tax and AI proposals remain legislation, not enacted law.
