The U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation announced it will reopen two aid distribution centers on Thursday, amid mounting criticism from aid groups and warnings of famine from the United Nations.

GHF had earlier paused operations, citing the need for repairs and maintenance, but did not initially confirm when aid delivery would resume. On June 5, the group said distribution would restart at two locations, though it did not provide further logistical details.

The foundation began aid deliveries last week but quickly came under fire from U.N. agencies and other NGOs over alleged inefficiencies and lack of coordination with broader humanitarian networks.

U.N. Warns of Famine Risk

The United Nations has warned that Gaza’s 2.3 million residents face imminent famine after more than eleven weeks of Israeli-imposed blockade, which has devastated food and medical supply chains. The U.N. has emphasized the need for scaled-up, coordinated relief operations.

U.S. Ties and Political Backing

GHF operates with American logistical and financial support, making it a politically sensitive initiative amid U.S. reluctance to call for a full ceasefire. Critics argue that GHF’s presence could fragment humanitarian efforts and deflect from broader international pressure on Israel.
