The United States and China have agreed to extend their ongoing tariff truce, concluding their latest round of trade talks in Stockholm, Chinese trade negotiator Li Chenggang announced on Tuesday.
While details of the extension were not disclosed, Li described the discussions as “candid and in-depth” and confirmed that both parties intend to maintain close communication in future engagements.
This meeting follows prior rounds in Geneva in May and in London in June, part of a renewed diplomatic effort to stabilize trade relations between the world’s two largest economies amid persistent economic and geopolitical tensions.
The extension of the tariff truce is viewed as a tactical move to prevent further escalation in trade restrictions, particularly as both countries face slowing growth and uncertain global market conditions.
No comment has been made by US officials at this time regarding the specifics or duration of the renewed arrangement.
