South Sudanese army spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said the two sides agreed to create a 14-member investigation committee, equally composed of members from both armies, with a temporary base in Gulu, Uganda. The committee will investigate the causes of recent clashes in Kajo Keji County and deliver recommendations to resolve recurring border disputes.
Gen. Kainerugaba also visited Bilnyang village southeast of Juba, the tactical base for “Milinzi wa Kimya” (Silent Guard), a joint security operation launched in March. Ugandan forces are deployed there under a bilateral security arrangement with South Sudan.
The visit followed earlier incidents in Kajo Keji County, where clashes between Ugandan forces and the South Sudanese army resulted in casualties. South Sudanese officials have repeatedly called for the withdrawal of Ugandan troops from their territory.
Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in security matters, alongside existing economic partnerships in sectors including oil, trade, infrastructure, transport, and agriculture.
