The IRGC confirmed that its personnel were working to clear munitions in western Iran when the fatal blast occurred. Tasnim News Agency attributed the explosives to Israeli bombardment in mid-June, part of a military campaign aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear capabilities—a claim Tehran has long denied.
Khorramabad was one of several regions hit during the conflict, which saw the deaths of key IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists. The Iranian judiciary reports that more than 900 people were killed in the country as a result of Israeli attacks.
Ceasefire And Regional Recovery
The Iran-Israel war began on June 13 and concluded with a ceasefire on June 24. In retaliation for Israeli strikes, Iran launched missile barrages that killed at least 28 people in Israel. While hostilities have paused, risks remain from unexploded ordnance scattered across several provinces.
On Saturday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first public appearance since the war, participating in a religious ceremony in Tehran. Iran also announced the reopening of its airspace, which had been closed since the beginning of the conflict.
