The partnership between the Trump Organization and SDC Imobiliare was confirmed in a statement released on Friday, outlining plans for the construction of Trump Tower Bucharest. Although financial details remain undisclosed, the project marks a significant milestone in the company’s post-2020 expansion strategy.

The Romanian media had previously speculated about such developments. In January, local outlet Ziar de Cluj reported that SDC CEO Ștefan Berciu was planning two major real estate projects—one in the capital Bucharest and another in the city of Cluj. Berciu, who was photographed attending Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, did not comment further beyond the joint press release.

This Romanian development follows a similar move in neighboring Serbia, where President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is pursuing Trump Tower Belgrade. Both ventures are part of a renewed foreign investment push that would have been prohibited under the Trump Organization’s prior self-imposed restrictions.

Trump Family Drives Balkan Outreach Strategy

Since Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, members of his family have actively led efforts to expand the organization’s international portfolio. Donald Trump Jr., who shares executive leadership with his brother Eric Trump, has taken a particularly hands-on role in Eastern Europe.

Trump Jr. has visited multiple countries in the region, holding discussions with controversial figures such as former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta and former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov—both of whom stepped down amid corruption allegations. He also interviewed Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on his podcast, reinforcing a blend of media, political, and commercial influence.

Meanwhile, Jared Kushner has taken charge of the Belgrade project as well as a luxury resort initiative in Albania, though the latter will carry the Aman brand rather than the Trump name. Together, these projects demonstrate how the Trump family is leveraging both business relationships and political networks to gain traction in countries where democratic and autocratic currents often collide.

As the Trump Organization presses ahead with its Balkan expansion, critics and observers are scrutinizing the increasingly blurred lines between global business ambitions and geopolitical engagement, especially as Trump seeks to extend his political legacy through economic influence abroad.
