President Donald Trump announced Thursday he will decide within two weeks whether the U.S. military will enter the Israel-Iran conflict, as Washington weighs a potential bunker-buster strike on Iran’s underground Fordo nuclear facility.

Fordo Strike Under Review

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is considering targeting Fordo, Iran’s highly fortified uranium enrichment site, which is buried under a mountain and can only be reached by America’s GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator—a 30,000-pound “bunker buster” deployable only by B-2 bombers.

While Israel has struck key Iranian sites like Natanz and Isfahan, Fordo remains intact. A strike on it would mark a major escalation and possibly tip the war into broader U.S. involvement.

Rising Civilian Toll Fuels Pressure

Trump’s decision comes amid spiraling violence. On Thursday, an Iranian missile strike hit the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, wounding more than 200 patients and staff. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz responded with an explicit threat toward Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Israeli jets simultaneously attacked nuclear and missile infrastructure across Iran. Since the war began, over 657 people have been killed in Iran, including 263 civilians, while at least 24 Israelis have died from Iranian attacks.

Diplomatic Push vs. Military Calculus

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to meet European leaders in Geneva, but insists Tehran won’t enter talks while under fire. Still, U.S. and British officials see a “window” for diplomacy in the next two weeks. U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said a negotiated off-ramp is possible if Iran softens its stance.

Meanwhile, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff continues informal backchannel contacts with Iranian intermediaries.

Iran’s Defiance and Israeli Intent

Tehran shows no signs of surrender. The Iranian parliament speaker rejected Trump’s threats and accused him of using war as leverage for a nuclear deal. The Israeli military, meanwhile, warns it will continue operations to destroy Iran’s nuclear program and missile launch systems.

Israel also confirmed strikes on the Arak heavy water reactor, which Iran says posed no radiation risk. Iran had pledged to redesign the reactor under the 2015 deal, but never completed the process.
