Sudan’s civil conflict escalated further on Tuesday, with reports that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) launched a drone strike targeting Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions in the city of Bara, North Kordofan. The early morning strike comes amid increasing reliance on drone warfare in the military’s campaign to regain territorial control from RSF units.
Artillery Shelling Kills Civilians In West Darfur
In a separate development, RSF forces reportedly carried out an artillery attack in West Darfur, killing at least eight civilians. Local sources described the shelling as indiscriminate, hitting residential areas and worsening the humanitarian toll in one of the most volatile regions of Sudan.
The two incidents underline the intensifying fragmentation of Sudan’s internal war, which has displaced millions and caused severe disruption to civilian life since violence erupted between the army and RSF in April 2023.
Conflict Spreads, Aid Access Blocked
Both sides continue to exchange heavy fire in urban and rural zones, with attacks increasingly impacting non-combatants. Humanitarian agencies have raised alarms over limited access to aid in North Kordofan and Darfur due to sustained fighting and insecurity.
With the use of drones now documented in multiple locations across Sudan, analysts warn that the conflict risks entering a prolonged and more technologically destructive phase, further endangering civilians and complicating peace efforts.
