Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised 24 terrorists in a five-day counter-insurgency campaign across Nigeria’s northeast, according to a military statement released on July 10. The coordinated operations—carried out between July 4 and 9—targeted remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno and Adamawa states.
Airstrikes And Ambushes Hit Insurgent Routes
The operations included night ambushes, air support from the Nigerian Air Force, and collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters. Key locations of engagement included Platari, Komala, Kawuri, and Konduga in Borno, as well as Madagali LGA in Adamawa.
On July 4, troops ambushed insurgents moving from Sambisa Forest toward the Timbuktu Triangle, killing three fighters. That same day, additional ambushes near Komala and Kawuri eliminated several more and led to the recovery of motorcycles, pesticides, food, and other supplies.
On July 5, troops intercepted insurgents attempting to infiltrate the Madarari IDP camp, killing one. By July 7, two logistics suppliers were killed in Sabsawa village. Recovered materials included bicycles, batteries, slippers, and torches.
ISWAP Camps Cleared As Military Gains Ground
A major clearance operation was launched on July 8 in Bula Marwa—an ISWAP stronghold—resulting in the destruction of a camp and the death of at least one fighter. Further operations in Tangalanga, Ngailda, Manjim, and Wulle villages on July 9 led to the killing of six insurgents and seizure of rifles, ammunition, and vehicles.
Military authorities described the success of the operations as a sign of growing momentum in the fight against terrorism in the northeast. They said the use of intelligence, precision airpower, and joint local coordination has played a crucial role in recent gains.
“The neutralisation of these insurgents underscores our commitment to restoring peace and enabling socio-economic recovery,” the Army said.
