French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, warning that the outbreak of war carries “grave consequences” for international peace and security.

In a statement on Saturday, Macron said the confrontation between the United States, Israel, and Iran represents a decisive moment with far-reaching implications.

“The outbreak of war between the United States, Israel, and Iran carries grave consequences for international peace and security,” he said, urging immediate diplomatic engagement through the Security Council.

France, he added, remains “faithful to its principles and aware of its international responsibilities,” and is formally calling for an emergency session of the Council to address the escalation.

Macron said he had spoken separately with leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and the president of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region. He also confirmed close contact with European partners.

At the same time, France is taking measures to safeguard its national territory, citizens, and interests in the Middle East. “Every measure is being taken” to ensure their security, he said. Paris also stands ready to deploy “the necessary resources” to protect its closest partners if requested.

Macron described the escalation as “dangerous for all” and insisted that “it must stop.” He said the Iranian regime has “no other option but to engage in good faith in negotiations to end its nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as its regional destabilization activities.”

He framed negotiations as “absolutely necessary for the security of all in the Middle East,” reinforcing France’s longstanding emphasis on diplomatic solutions to Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.

Beyond state-level diplomacy, Macron also addressed the situation inside Iran. “The Iranian people must also be able to freely build their future,” he said, adding that “the massacres committed by the Islamic regime disqualify it and demand that the voice be returned to the people.”

His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump described the strikes as eliminating a security threat and offering Iranians an opportunity to challenge their rulers, further intertwining military action with political messaging.
