Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned that tens of thousands of Sudanese refugees fleeing North Darfur are now facing severe humanitarian conditions in eastern Chad, with malnutrition and overcrowding worsening daily.

Since late April, nearly 40,000 Sudanese have crossed into Chad, escaping intensified violence around El-Fasher. The Tin transit camp now hosts over 18,000 people in extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 40°C, and minimal access to water or food.

MSF reports most arrivals are women and children already suffering from hunger due to a blockade imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) before their displacement.

Severe Malnutrition Among Children

At the Tin camp health center, MSF conducts over 900 consultations per week. Nearly 29% of children under age five are malnourished, with 9% in critical condition. The organization is preparing to distribute more therapeutic food and basic supplies in response.

“These people are arriving in a state of exhaustion and hunger,” MSF staff stated, emphasizing the urgent need for increased international aid.
