Argentinians went to the polls to fill half of the Chamber of Deputies and one-third of the Senate. According to unofficial results, Milei’s La Libertad Avanza emerged as the clear winner, signaling a shift in the country’s political landscape. The party’s strong showing nearly doubled its representation in the lower house.

Breaking Peronist Strongholds

In Buenos Aires province, Milei captured 41.5% of the vote, narrowly defeating the Peronist coalition at 40.8%. This is notable given that Peronists had previously won the region convincingly in early October’s provincial elections. Meanwhile, La Libertad Avanza secured six of eight contested Senate seats but has not yet reached the threshold needed to fully push its economic reform agenda.

Historic Victory Amid Low Turnout

Voter participation hit 67.85%, marking the lowest turnout since Argentina returned to democracy in 1983. Political analysts view Milei’s win as a clear endorsement for his radical free-market policies, giving him a mandate to pursue sweeping reforms.

At his Buenos Aires party headquarters, Milei described the results as “a historic day for Argentina,” adding, “Over the next two years, we must advance the reform path we have started.” He emphasized that from December 10, Argentina will have “the most reformist Congress in our history,” aimed at driving growth and economic transformation.
