Newly leaked details suggest that Israel and Hamas are nearing an agreement on a multi-phase ceasefire and hostage exchange, involving the release of 10 living Israeli captives and the return of 18 bodies held by Hamas. According to sources cited by the New York Times and Arabic media, the deal—backed by the U.S. and mediated by Egypt and Qatar—would unfold over five stages during a 60-day truce, if Hamas consents.

Deal Framework Revealed

According to both Israeli and Hamas-linked sources, the proposed agreement includes:

  • 10 Israeli hostages released alive
  • 18 bodies of Israelis returned
  • Five-stage exchange process during a ceasefire window

Sources emphasized that Hamas will be expected to refrain from publicizing the release with filmed footage, a practice that previously stirred backlash in earlier deals.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed Israel’s approval of the plan, writing on Truth Social:

“Israel agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60-day ceasefire.” He also credited Qatar and Egypt for their pivotal roles in crafting the deal.

In remarks accompanying the announcement, Trump stated he would be “very firm with Netanyahu” regarding ending the war, indicating direct White House pressure on the Israeli government to de-escalate the Gaza conflict.

Gaza Death Toll and Urgency

The urgency is underscored by the rising civilian toll. Gaza’s Civil Defense reported at least 47 Palestinians were killed Wednesday by Israeli airstrikes. The ongoing war, now in its 21st month, began after Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023, which left 1,219 Israelis dead.

Israel responded with a massive siege and bombardment campaign that has killed over 57,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
