Israeli Politicians Grill Netanyahu for "Disasterous" Ceasefire
Netanyahu is facing a strong backlash at home over the ceasefire "Israel was shut out of", as delierate Israeli strikes on Lebanon risk provoking Iran into response, potentially collapsing the ceasefire. U.S. commentators accuse Israel of trying to sabotage Trumps peace deal.

Israel’s continued bombardment of Lebanon alongside a U.S.-Iran ceasefire has exposed sharp internal divisions, with senior politicians openly questioning both the truce and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategy.
Senior figures within Israel’s political system have sharply criticized the ceasefire and the government’s role in it. Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli said, “I think it was a mistake to go to a ceasefire at this time,” adding such conflicts require enemies to be brought “to their knees.”
He assessed only a “50% chance” the ceasefire would hold, even as he insisted “Iran lost its status as a regional power.”
Opposition leader Yair Lapid described the outcome as unprecedented, writing: “There has never been a political disaster like this in our entire history,” and adding Netanyahu “failed politically, failed strategically.”
Criticism has centered on Israel’s exclusion from the U.S.-Iran agreement. Lapid stated Israel “was not even close to the table” and warned the country had become “a protectorate state that receives instructions over the phone.”
Former Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan called the ceasefire a “strategic failure,” while former Minister of Finance Avigdor Liberman argued it gives Iran “an opportunity to regroup,” warning of a future conflict “under more difficult conditions.”
Shut out of U.S.-Iran peace talks, Israel is heavily striking Lebanon. At least 254 people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded, with some estimates nearing 300 deaths within a single day.
The scale and intensity of strikes, including operations across multiple locations has raised concerns among observers about escalation dynamics.
The developments have also drawn criticism from U.S. political commentators. Former Director of the United States National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent had said on April 4 that Trump’s negotiations were working, but “Israel forced this war by attacking Iran,” adding, “Israel needs this war… We need peace.”
Conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson published a program claiming “Netanyahu launches terror attack on Beirut, destroying Trump’s ceasefire,” arguing the U.S. should “detach from Israel immediately.”
Despite criticism, some Israeli officials emphasize battlefield outcomes. Chikli said the war created “a new reality” across multiple fronts and described the results as “yes, yes, and yes.”
