At least eight Palestinians, mostly children, were killed in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp when an Israeli missile struck a water collection point, local officials said. The Israeli military admitted the missile had malfunctioned and missed its intended target, adding that the incident is under review.

The Israeli military stated the missile was targeting an Islamic Jihad fighter but instead struck a civilian area, falling far from its intended target. "The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved civilians," the army said. The strike killed six children and injured at least 17 others, according to Ahmed Abu Saifan, a doctor at Al-Awda Hospital.

With Gaza facing severe water shortages due to fuel supply collapses that have crippled desalination and sanitation facilities, families are forced to queue at distribution points for basic water needs.

Hours after the Nuseirat incident, another Israeli strike reportedly killed 12 people at a Gaza City market, including prominent hospital consultant Ahmad Qandil. Israel did not immediately comment on this attack.

The health ministry in Gaza said the overall death toll has surpassed 58,000 since the war began in October 2023, with more than half being women and children. The ministry reported 139 additional deaths in the past 24 hours.

Despite U.S. efforts to broker a ceasefire, talks in Doha have stalled. President Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff expressed hope for progress but noted continued divisions over Israeli withdrawals from Gaza. Prime Minister Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s demands for Hamas’s destruction and the release of hostages, rejecting any withdrawal that would leave Rafah under Hamas control.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s government continues to discuss plans for relocating hundreds of thousands of Gazans to a proposed “humanitarian city” in Rafah during any potential ceasefire, a move likely to draw international criticism.
