According to a source cited by Sky News Arabia, Israel agreed to withdraw from the two camps on the condition that the Palestinian Authority does not interfere with military infrastructure left behind — particularly the roads built through residential areas and the plots of land cleared by the army.

The deal was reached following a visit by the Palestinian Interior Minister alongside U.S. officials. The agreement marks one of the few recent attempts at coordination between Israeli forces and the Palestinian Authority, though it remains fragile and conditional.

Should the Palestinian Authority meet Israel’s terms and ensure calm in the area, Israeli officials may consider further withdrawals, including from the volatile Jenin camp, later in the year.

Months Of Violence Precede Agreement

The planned withdrawal comes amid escalating violence across the occupied West Bank. For months, Israel has carried out large-scale operations in northern areas, including Tulkarm and Jenin, which have resulted in hundreds of Palestinian deaths and the displacement of tens of thousands.

The situation worsened following Israel’s war on Gaza that began in late 2023, which fueled a surge in settler violence and deepened military entrenchment. Approximately 700,000 Israeli settlers now live among 2.7 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem — territories occupied since the 1967 war.

Rights groups and UN observers have warned that the recent military campaigns and settlement expansions risk permanently undermining prospects for Palestinian statehood.
