Pezeshkian stated that differences with Washington could be “easily resolved” through talks, but emphasized that recent attacks had undermined confidence. The US and Israel bombed Iranian targets in June, including nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, just days before scheduled nuclear negotiations.

“How are we going to trust the United States again?” Pezeshkian asked, accusing Israel of derailing diplomacy and claiming that Israel attempted to assassinate him during the bombardment.

Ceasefire Holds As Accusations Continue

A ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been in place since June 24 following a 12-day conflict that killed at least 1,060 people in Iran. Despite the truce, Pezeshkian warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was pushing the region toward “forever wars” and urged Donald Trump not to be drawn into further confrontation.

Trump, speaking ahead of Netanyahu’s Washington visit, praised US airstrikes on Iran as a “tremendous success” and said Iran’s nuclear program had been “set back permanently.”

Strategic Stakes Remain High

Iran’s president called on the US to choose between leading the region toward peace or falling into a “swamp” of endless conflict. He maintained that the US was not behind the reported assassination attempt but placed full blame on Israel.

Pezeshkian’s remarks underline Iran’s cautious willingness to return to talks while highlighting the fragile nature of post-war diplomacy in a region facing persistent strategic rivalries.
