Sources familiar with the visit said Larijani will meet top Iraqi officials to formalize the agreement, which is expected to address issues such as cross-border security, counterterrorism coordination, and information-sharing mechanisms. This initiative reflects both countries’ interest in confronting security challenges along their shared border, including smuggling and militant activity.
The agreement is being presented as part of a broader framework for long-term stability in bilateral relations. Iranian media emphasized that the deal would also pave the way for expanded political dialogue and economic cooperation.
Regional Tour To Include Lebanon
Following the Iraq visit, Larijani is scheduled to travel to Lebanon, where he will meet political leaders to discuss the latest developments in the region, prospects for expanding trade relations, and ongoing security concerns. This leg of the tour underscores Tehran’s continued engagement with its allies in the Middle East and its focus on regional security diplomacy.
Ali Larijani is regarded as one of Iran’s most influential political figures. He served as speaker of the Iranian parliament from 2008 to 2020, headed Iran’s state broadcasting organization, and acted as senior strategic adviser to the Supreme Leader. His return to the position of national security chief marks the second time he has held the role, having previously served from 2005 to 2007.
