On Thursday, an Iranian missile targeted an army intelligence camp and the Gam-Yan Technology building near the Soroka Medical Centre in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, causing partial damage to the hospital.

Hospital Building Hit, Casualties Avoided

Photos released by Israeli emergency services showed shattered glass and collapsed ceiling panels inside the facility. Shlomi Codish, the hospital’s director general, confirmed the missile hit the old surgical building, which had recently been evacuated. “All patients and staff were in protected areas at the time,” he stated.

The emergency department treated several people for mild injuries. No deaths were reported.

Civilian Infrastructure Caught in Crossfire

The strike underscored the increasing risk to civilians on both sides. Since the start of the war, Iranian missiles have killed at least 24 people in Israel, while Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 224 people in Iran, according to official figures.

Despite Israel’s advanced air defenses intercepting the majority of incoming missiles, Thursday’s incident revealed that some threats continue to penetrate these systems.

War Crime Accusation, Conflicting Claims

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Tehran of committing war crimes by targeting a medical facility, referencing international law prohibiting such attacks. “This is a violation of all norms and treaties,” he said.

Iranian sources countered that their strikes targeted military sites near Beersheba, including one reportedly adjacent to Soroka Hospital.

The incident drew immediate condemnation from several international health and human rights organizations, which have called for restraint and protection of medical infrastructure across conflict zones.
