Iran Says It Won’t Halt Enrichment For U.S. Nuclear Talks
Senior advisor Ali Akbar Velayati stated that Iran will not suspend its uranium enrichment program, calling it a "red line" regardless of negotiations with the United States.

Speaking during a meeting with Pakistan’s interior minister, Ali Akbar Velayati emphasized Iran’s refusal to compromise on its right to enrich uranium. “If negotiations are to be contingent on halting enrichment, they will definitely not take place,” he said, echoing long-standing Iranian resistance to Western pressure.
The statement comes as global powers, including the U.S., seek to revive nuclear negotiations after months of stalled progress and shifting dynamics in the region.
Velayati’s remarks also serve as a rebuttal to recent reports by Axios claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin had pressed Tehran to accept a no-enrichment agreement. Russia has denied the allegation, stating no such pressure was applied.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials remain uncertain about Iran’s negotiating position. While some reports suggest openness to talks, Iran has yet to agree on a timeline or venue, and Tehran continues to enrich uranium at near weapons-grade levels.
As diplomatic efforts remain fragile, Iran’s firm stance signals continued challenges for any future agreement between Washington and Tehran.
