Iran’s judiciary announced the execution of Mohammad-Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh on Monday, claiming he had engaged in intelligence cooperation with Israel’s Mossad. The execution comes as military tensions between Iran and Israel enter their 11th day.
“The judiciary carried out the hanging of Shayesteh this morning for intelligence cooperation with Israel,” Iranian authorities said.
Accusations Include Collaboration With Iran International
According to the judiciary, Shayesteh not only maintained alleged contact with Mossad but also worked with Iran International—a Persian-language broadcaster based in London that Tehran regards as an extension of Israeli influence.
Iranian authorities have long targeted the channel, especially during the nationwide protests sparked by the 2022 death of Mahsa Amini in police custody. At the time, state institutions labeled the broadcaster a “terrorist organization.”
Parallel Executions and Harsh Warnings
On the previous day, authorities also executed Majid Mosayebi for similar charges of working with Mossad. Iran's judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, stated on state television that such cases would be handled more swiftly going forward.
“Security-related cases, especially those involving cooperation with foreign enemies and acting as a fifth column, will be handled more swiftly,” Ejei emphasized.
Executions Continue Despite International Scrutiny
Iran continues to rank as the world’s second-most prolific executioner after China, according to human rights watchdogs including Amnesty International. The government routinely announces arrests and executions of individuals it accuses of spying for foreign intelligence agencies—particularly those of Israel.
The execution comes amid an ongoing military confrontation between Iran and Israel, which has involved missile strikes and air attacks over the past 11 days. Tensions remain high following U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, prompting Iran’s leadership to heighten internal security operations.
