Iran’s top military official voiced skepticism over the durability of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Israel, warning that any further attacks would trigger a strong Iranian response, as tensions remain high following unprecedented airstrikes on nuclear and civilian sites.

Mousavi Signals Readiness for Escalation

General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, said Tehran has “serious doubts about the enemy’s commitment” to the truce and stands “prepared to deliver a firm response” to any repeat of hostilities. His remarks came during a call with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, highlighting concerns over the ceasefire declared earlier in the week.

Aftermath of June 13 Airstrikes

The cautious truce follows a surprise Israeli strike on June 13 that killed several senior Iranian nuclear and military officials, including Mousavi’s predecessor. The U.S. later joined the offensive, bombing three key Iranian nuclear facilities that President Trump claimed had “obliterated” Tehran’s atomic capabilities.

The attacks also struck civilian areas in Tehran and other cities, further inflaming Iranian public sentiment.

Heavy Toll and Mutual Accusations

According to Iranian officials, 627 people have been killed in Israeli attacks to date. On the other side, Israel reports 28 fatalities and more than 1,300 injured from Iranian missile and drone strikes. Despite the ceasefire largely holding so far, both sides continue to accuse each other of violations.
