Iran’s atomic energy agency has confirmed there is no risk to civilians following Israeli aerial strikes on the Khondab nuclear site near Arak, which hosts a partially-built heavy-water reactor.

Iran Assures Safety Following Strike

In an official update Thursday, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization stated there was “no threat or harm to residents” after Israeli warplanes targeted the Khondab facility. The site, located near the central city of Arak, contains an incomplete heavy-water research reactor and is not operational.

The reassurance came hours after the Israeli military released footage of the airstrikes, claiming the goal was to damage components that could enable future plutonium production.

Strategic Targeting in Nuclear Stand-Off

Khondab, while not currently functional, has long been a focus of Israeli concern due to its potential role in Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The latest strikes appear aimed at preempting the site’s development amid broader efforts to degrade Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Israeli officials justifying the strike as a preventative measure tied to national and allied security interests.
