Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Tuesday that a new round of indirect nuclear negotiations with the United States will take place in Muscat, Oman, as both sides seek to ease regional tensions amid a sensitive diplomatic juncture.

Iran Prepares to Submit Counter-Proposal

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Norway before the Muscat meeting. The discussions form part of what Tehran describes as a “complex diplomatic track” intended to address both nuclear and geopolitical disputes.

Sources cited by Tasnim News reported that Iran will submit an official response to the latest U.S. proposal within the next two days. The proposal includes an alternative framework that protects Iran’s uranium enrichment rights—its declared non-negotiable “red line.”

Trump Threatens to Walk Away

Speaking in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Iran’s insistence on enrichment could collapse the talks. “Iran is pursuing enrichment. That’s what we don’t want,” he stated, signaling rising frustration.

Trump pulled the U.S. out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, triggering a sharp increase in Iranian nuclear activity and sanctions.

High Stakes in a Volatile Region

The renewed talks coincide with ceasefire efforts in Gaza, where Iran has also been accused of playing a role in back-channel negotiations involving Hamas and Israel. Analysts believe Tehran may use the nuclear talks to strengthen its hand in broader regional diplomacy.
