The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that while Iran possesses sufficient enriched uranium for multiple nuclear warheads, there is no current evidence that Tehran has restarted its nuclear weapons program.

“Enough Material, But No Assembly”

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said, “They have enough material for several nuclear explosive devices, but we have not seen any reallocation or reconversion of this material into weapons-grade forms or warhead production.”

Grossi noted the distinction between capability and intent, urging both restraint and renewed diplomacy amid spiraling Israel-Iran hostilities.

Regional Firestorm Heightens Global Risk

Grossi described the region as “on fire,” referring to Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, including Khondab and Isfahan. He emphasized the need for non-escalation and said the IAEA continues to seek fuller access to Iran’s nuclear facilities, including undeclared sites.

“Attacks on nuclear facilities are unacceptable—period,” he added.

Call for Diplomatic Urgency

Grossi urged both sides to return to dialogue, warning that the situation could spiral. He reaffirmed the IAEA’s commitment to impartial monitoring, even as Iran’s cooperation has fluctuated. While Iran remains a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), its recent restrictions on inspections have alarmed watchdogs.
