Yemen’s Houthi movement warned Saturday it will target US naval vessels in the Red Sea if the Trump administration supports Israeli military action against Iran.

Red Sea at Risk Again

The warning was issued via the Houthis' official Telegram channel and comes amid rising fears of a broader regional war. The group had previously agreed to a ceasefire with the US following a heavy American bombing campaign, but says it will resume attacks on American ships if Washington enters the conflict on Israel’s side.

Ongoing Targeting of Israeli Assets

Although attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea have largely ceased since late 2024, the Houthis have continued to target Israeli ships and interests in the region. Their campaign began after Israel’s war in Gaza erupted, disrupting one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.

Last week, the Houthis reportedly participated in a coordinated missile barrage with Iran, even as their truce with Washington technically remained in place.

The Houthis, backed by Iran, became a central actor in maritime conflict zones after launching Red Sea attacks during the Israel-Hamas war. While the U.S. managed to de-escalate Houthi aggression through diplomacy and force, new threats from Sanaa could reignite tensions if U.S. forces intervene directly in Israel’s widening war with Iran.
