The Houthis said the airport attack was part of a broader strategy to support Gaza’s population amid the Israeli siege. The group also cited Israel’s recent raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque as a contributing factor. In a military statement, the Houthis said they would continue launching missiles and drones until Israel ends its war and blockade on Gaza.

In addition to the Ben Gurion strike, the Houthis had earlier this week claimed attacks on three targets in Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, and Haifa using drones. The Israeli army did not confirm the additional strikes but maintained that its air defenses had intercepted most incoming threats.

Houthi Naval Threats Extend Anti-Israel Campaign

Since late July, the Houthis have escalated their campaign with maritime operations, targeting commercial vessels linked to or heading toward Israeli ports. On July 27, they announced a new operational phase that includes striking ships from any company dealing with Israel—regardless of nationality. The group said these attacks are part of their continued support for Gaza, which they claim is under genocidal assault.

The Houthi campaign—backed by Iran—has expanded its military reach far beyond Yemen, transforming the movement into a prominent actor in the regional alignment opposing Israeli operations in Gaza. Their use of advanced missile technology, including the newly unveiled hypersonic “Falasteen-2,” signals a widening threat scope as the conflict in Gaza persists into its 22nd month.
