Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, testified before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday in a closed-door session in Chappaqua, New York. She stated, “I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island, homes or offices.” Clinton emphasized that she offered no information regarding Epstein’s criminal activities during the seven-hour deposition. She said the questioning turned “quite unusual” when the panel raised topics such as UFOs and the Pizzagate conspiracy theory.
Clinton accused the Republican-led committee of attempting to shift focus from U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that his administration “gutted” a State Department office combating international sex trafficking. Committee Chairman James Comer dismissed calls for Trump to testify, citing his prior disclosures and transparency regarding Epstein-related documents. Clinton and her husband initially refused to testify but complied after lawmakers threatened contempt proceedings. Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear before the committee on Friday.
The committee seeks to examine any interaction between Hillary Clinton and Epstein, including his involvement with Clinton Foundation projects and ties to Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Comer said, “No one is accusing at this moment the Clintons of any wrongdoing but we do have a lot of questions.” Transcripts and video of the depositions will be made public. Top Democrat Robert Garcia suggested that Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who admitted visiting Epstein’s private island, might also be subpoenaed.
Democrats on the panel allege that the Justice Department selectively withheld material from 3 million Epstein-related documents to protect Trump. Garcia highlighted missing records, including complaints by a woman alleging sexual abuse by Trump as a minor. The department said it is reviewing the release and will publish any improperly withheld documents. Law enforcement has not charged Trump with crimes related to Epstein.
Bill Clinton traveled on Epstein’s private plane several times in the early 2000s. Epstein visited the White House 17 times while Clinton was in office. Released documents show Epstein’s wide-ranging connections to political and business figures, including Lutnick and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Internationally, investigations have involved Britain’s Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and other prominent individuals. Clinton maintained that the majority of those associated with Epstein before his 2008 conviction “did not know” about his trafficking.
