The U.S.-Iran ceasefire faces immediate strain as Hezbollah signals it may not hold if fighting in Lebanon is excluded, amid a narrowly defined truce in a multi-front conflict.

Hezbollah Spokesperson Ibrahim Moussawi warned the ceasefire could collapse entirely if it does not cover the Lebanon front, with the MP insisting the deal must include confrontation with Israel.

He said that if Israel does not comply, “the region, including Iran, will respond,” reinforcing Tehran’s long-standing position that conflicts in Iran and Lebanon form a single operational theater.

Israel has adopted the opposite position however, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating the agreement does not extend to Lebanon.

The Israeli military confirmed that fighting against Hezbollah, including ground operations, will continue.

Since the ceasefire came into effect, Israeli forces have carried out multiple strikes across southern Lebanon.

The disconnect is compounded by ongoing regional strikes. An Iranian oil refinery on Lavan Island was hit, while Iran has retaliated with attacks on targets in Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE.

There is a growing international concern that partial agreements may fail to contain a conflict already spanning multiple countries and actors.

Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares called Israel’s continued attacks in Lebanon “unacceptable,” urging that all fronts be included in any ceasefire arrangement.

The divergence between U.S., Israeli, and Hezbollah positions introduces uncertainty over the durability of the ceasefire framework, particularly as active operations continue.

With overlapping conflicts and competing interpretations of the agreement, the truce appears constrained by unresolved questions over its application.
