The Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF), a US- and Israel-supported aid organization, has officially terminated its operations in the region. The announcement comes after months of distributing humanitarian assistance amid ongoing violence, with the organization emphasizing that its temporary mission achieved its goal of demonstrating effective aid delivery under extreme conditions.

New Standards for Humanitarian Aid in Conflict Zones

GHF’s General Manager John Acree, formerly director of USAID’s Afghanistan Stabilization Office, said the organization set new benchmarks for delivering aid safely and efficiently, even in the most dangerous conflict zones.

“This mission was designed to show that humanitarian aid can be delivered effectively, safely, and transparently even in high-risk areas,” Acree said. He added that the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) and international partners helped implement and support the model successfully.

Temporary Mission with Lasting Impact

GHF emphasized that its operations were always intended as a temporary emergency initiative. Funded through private contributions, the organization assumed control over aid distribution in Gaza following Israel’s total blockade on humanitarian and commercial supplies beginning March 2.

By late May, shortages of essential supplies had caused widespread hunger in Gaza. GHF sought to address the crisis, though some experienced NGOs expressed concerns about its distribution methods and limited operational expertise.

Closure and Legacy

Acree concluded, “We have demonstrated a better way to deliver aid to Gazans, and as a result, we are ending our operations.” He noted that the CMCC and broader international community will continue to use and expand upon the standards established by GHF.

With UN agencies and other NGOs continuing aid delivery in Gaza, GHF’s closure marks the end of a temporary but influential emergency intervention.
