Elon Musk has entered the early stages of forming a new political party, and among those he has recently turned to for advice is Curtis Yarvin — a blogger infamous for his anti-democratic ideology, support for monarchy, and provocative views on race. According to two sources familiar with the conversation, Musk and Yarvin spoke late last week about Musk's developing plans for the “America Party,” a political vehicle he hopes to launch ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections.
Unconventional Counsel for an Unorthodox Campaign
Yarvin, often identified as a key figure within the “tech right,” has long argued that liberal democracy is a failed experiment and that the United States would function better under the leadership of a single, powerful executive—a "C.E.O." or modern-day monarch. Despite his ideological prominence in fringe political circles, Yarvin has no practical experience building political parties or running campaigns.
Still, Musk, who recently followed Yarvin on X (formerly Twitter), engaged him to discuss political theory and potential strategies. The outreach underscores Musk’s willingness to seek input from contrarian figures well outside the political mainstream. Neither Musk nor Yarvin commented publicly on the conversation, though those familiar with the discussion say it reflected Musk’s openness to radical ideas in shaping his political vision.
Conflicting Ideologies on Governance and Voting
The pair differ on key issues. Musk has promoted conspiracy theories about electronic voting and insists that the U.S. should “only do paper ballots, hand-counted.” Yarvin, by contrast, has argued for increasing the use of technology in elections, including phone app-based voting to lower barriers to participation and weaken the role of candidate charisma.
Yarvin has also critiqued Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency initiative for failing to concentrate sufficient power over federal agencies—an ironic criticism given Musk’s libertarian roots and general suspicion of centralized state control.
Ties to Tech Elites and the Political Far Right
Though he lacks a formal role in politics, Yarvin has long influenced a corner of Silicon Valley. He has associated with venture capital figures such as Peter Thiel and Marc Andreessen, and his writings have been cited by figures like U.S. Vice President JD Vance. Yarvin has publicly called for a post-democratic state and challenged the legitimacy of racial equality, writing in December, “In this house, we believe in science — race science.”
His relationship with Musk has not previously extended beyond public commentary and trolling, but the recent conversation suggests Musk may be actively courting intellectuals aligned with a more authoritarian or elitist worldview. Whether that’s a strategic move or simply an exploratory step remains unclear.
The America Party: Vision or Vanity?
Musk’s “America Party” idea has been floated in vague terms for months. He’s also engaged with Andrew Yang, the former Democratic presidential candidate and founder of the Forward Party, who recently connected with Musk via X. However, Musk has not yet presented a concrete political roadmap or a slate of candidates, leaving observers uncertain whether he intends to disrupt the U.S. political landscape or merely provoke discussion.
Insiders say Musk’s effort is still in the exploratory phase, with no formal organization or funding structure announced. One of his biggest challenges may be recruiting credible figures willing to associate with a third-party venture that risks alienating both Trump’s base and moderate Democrats.
For now, Musk’s consultations with fringe ideologues like Yarvin are a signal of the political experiment’s direction: disruptive, populist, and deeply skeptical of established norms. Whether this amounts to a viable third-party challenge or another ideological spectacle remains to be seen.
