Kurdish counterterrorism forces reported that a drone was intercepted and destroyed near Erbil Airport at 2:20 a.m. local time. Later that evening, two more drones hit the Khor Mor oil field between 8:20 and 8:25 p.m. Though there were no injuries, authorities confirmed material damage.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, a fire erupted at the Sarsink oil field following an explosion. Production operations were suspended as a precaution, with firefighting teams attempting to contain the blaze.

Engineers on-site stated that while no human harm occurred, the production halt would continue until full safety was assured. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.

Iraq’s Security Media Cell described the drones involved as “unknown in origin” and confirmed physical damage at the site near Erbil. They are working with Kurdish intelligence to investigate the incidents.

No group has claimed responsibility, although the region has witnessed frequent drone and rocket attacks in recent weeks. Similar attacks often strike uninhabited areas, and responsibility frequently goes unclaimed.

Earlier this month, Kurdish authorities accused factions linked to the Popular Mobilization Forces of carrying out a similar drone strike, prompting a diplomatic row with Baghdad, which rejected the accusations as baseless and unacceptable.
