The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the death toll from the ongoing violence in Suwayda province has reached 718, as clashes between local factions and tribal fighters escalate.
The monitor confirmed that hostilities remain active within Suwayda city and its outskirts, despite reports of a ceasefire agreement. Recent fighting intensified as tribal forces opened new fronts and advanced toward key urban areas, including the western entrance of Suwayda.
According to the Observatory, the fatalities since July 13 include 226 from Suwayda, of whom 80 were civilians, including women. Government security forces and defence ministry personnel accounted for 305 deaths, including 18 from the Bedouin community. Israeli airstrikes also contributed to the toll, killing 15 members of Syria’s defence and interior ministries and 3 civilians.
Additional casualties include a journalist and members of Bedouin tribes, with reports confirming executions and field killings in the affected areas.
The Observatory stated, “The death toll continues to rise with ongoing hostilities and Israeli attacks targeting defence ministry facilities.”
The Syrian presidency previously expressed “concern” over the deteriorating security in the south and declared support for efforts to stabilize the region. Local sources indicated that security forces are moving to implement ceasefire terms and restore order within Suwayda city.
