China Urges New Iran Deal After U.S. And Israeli Strikes

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has condemned recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and personnel, warning they set a “bad precedent” and risk provoking a nuclear crisis in the Middle East. Speaking at a press conference in Paris alongside French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot, Wang called for urgent negotiations on a new international agreement to manage Iran’s nuclear activities.

Wang’s remarks reflect Beijing’s growing role as a diplomatic counterweight to Western interventions in the region. China reaffirmed support for Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons while underscoring its right to peaceful nuclear energy. “Relevant parties should accelerate negotiations… and place Iran’s nuclear activities fully under the strict supervision and safeguards of the IAEA,” Wang stated.

As Tehran faces heightened international isolation, China has maintained strong bilateral ties, positioning itself as a potential mediator. Wang’s European tour marks a broader effort to reshape China’s global diplomatic image amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
