Satellite imagery obtained by Iran International appears to show damage to a high-value communications installation at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar following an Iranian missile strike on June 23. The images, captured by U.S. firm Satellogic on June 24, reveal a once-visible geodesic radome now reduced to a blackened smear, raising questions about the true extent of the impact despite U.S. denials of significant damage.

The strike followed U.S. and Israeli attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites during a 12-day conflict that U.S. President Donald Trump later said "obliterated" Iran's nuclear program. Iran launched ballistic missiles at Al Udeid in retaliation. While CENTCOM stated that most of the incoming missiles were intercepted—thirteen shot down and one allowed to continue on a nonthreatening trajectory—satellite imagery suggests otherwise.

The target appears to have been a Modernized Enterprise Terminal (MET), a $15 million communications system inside the radome, designed to provide secure video, voice, and data links across U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility. Installed in 2016, it was the first of its kind deployed outside the United States and features anti-jamming capabilities.

Denials and Damage Control

Despite the evidence, the Pentagon did not confirm any damage. President Trump dismissed the Iranian response as “very weak,” claiming no American personnel were harmed and “hardly any damage was done.” A statement by CENTCOM also credited U.S. and Qatari Patriot missile systems for successfully defending the facility.

Defense analyst Farzin Nadimi, speaking to Iran International, noted that a drone could have accompanied the missile barrage and slipped through while Patriot batteries were occupied. “They had about two minutes to respond once the threat was detected,” he said.

Al Udeid Air Base near Doha is the forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command and a critical hub for regional operations. Even minor damage to its communications infrastructure could represent a significant vulnerability and raise alarms about future Iranian targeting capabilities and the resilience of U.S. air defenses in the Gulf.

The United States has not retaliated for the strike, and Trump swiftly enforced a ceasefire that remains in effect.
