Sudan’s Sovereignty Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has held a three-hour meeting in Switzerland with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Africa adviser Massad Boulos, sources told Al Mayadeen. Arranged through Qatari mediation, the late-night talks on Monday centered on efforts to end the conflict in Sudan, curb the UAE’s reported backing of the Rapid Support Forces, and prioritize humanitarian relief for civilians affected by the war. The meeting marked a rare high-level engagement between Khartoum and senior figures linked to the Trump administration’s Africa policy.
According to the sources, the U.S. side emphasized the need for direct negotiations between Sudan and the UAE to ease tensions and prevent further RSF support. The American delegation also pressed for urgent steps to stop the war and focus on Sudan’s worsening humanitarian conditions, including disease outbreaks and food shortages.
The talks also addressed Sudan’s political future once the conflict ends. Al-Burhan reportedly told Boulos that he rejects any role for the RSF in a post-war government, signaling a firm stance on excluding the paramilitary group from formal power structures. The meeting was held at Washington’s request, but no official comments have been issued by Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, the Cabinet, or the Sudanese Armed Forces regarding the outcomes.
