At least 13 soldiers were killed in a suicide bombing on June 28, 2025, near the Afghan border in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack took place in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, where a bomber detonated explosives near a bomb disposal unit vehicle from the 22 Frontier Force Regiment. The blast also left 24 people injured, including 14 civilians. The region, notorious for past attacks, remains a hotspot for insurgent activities.
Casualties and Response
Pakistan's army has yet to comment on the incident, though local sources report the extensive damage caused by the blast. In addition to the military casualties, the attack also affected civilians in the area. The suicide bombing is one of the deadliest single-day assaults on Pakistan's security forces in recent months.
Claims of Responsibility
The attack was claimed by a local militant group led by Hafiz Gulbahadar, who is active in North Waziristan. This group has a history of launching attacks against Pakistani security forces in the region. The bombing comes amid rising tensions and an uptick in militant operations in the area.
Military Response
Following a series of attacks in the Waziristan, Khyber, and Kurram districts, the Pakistani military has intensified intelligence-based operations in the province. Islamabad has accused Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, allegedly operating from Afghan soil, of orchestrating several recent terror strikes. Kabul has consistently denied these allegations.
