Spain Signs 30-Year Deal for 45 Turkish HÜRJET Jets
Spain has officially approved the purchase of 45 HÜRJET advanced jet trainers and light attack aircraft from Türkiye. Valued at €3.12 billion, the deal covers deliveries starting in 2028 and secures at least 30 years of operational use.
October 29, 2025Clash Report
The Spanish government has approved the purchase of 45 HÜRJET jet trainers and light attack aircraft, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ). The decision was announced during a Cabinet meeting, highlighting Spain’s goal to modernize its air force and enhance pilot training capabilities for combat and attack operations.
The contract, valued at €3.12 billion, replaces Spain’s aging AE.09 (F5) jets with a complete Integrated Training System (ITS-C) designed to ensure pilots are fully prepared for complex security scenarios. The agreement will remain in effect until November 30, 2035, without an extension option.
Long-Term Operational Plan
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, with the first aircraft entering the 2029/2030 training courses. HÜRJET jets are expected to serve in Spanish operations for at least 30 years, providing long-term capabilities for both the Air and Space Forces.
According to project reports, Airbus will act as the coordinator and primary driver within Spain’s aerospace sector. The initiative will involve 15 major Spanish aerospace companies, including Aciturri, Aernnova, Aertec, Airtificial, Amper, Centum, CESA, CLUE, GMV, Grabysur, Indra, Grupo Oesia, Orbital, and Sener. The Spanish Industry Ministry will provide a €1.04 billion loan over five years to support the program.
Airbus Collaboration and Technological Integration
The HÜRJET program will leverage Airbus’ expertise in design, production, system integration, in-service support, and training, while benefiting from TUSAŞ’s innovative supersonic, single-engine, two-seat jet design. The aircraft’s advanced technology will serve as the foundation for Spain’s future training system.
The Cabinet highlighted that the acquisition will expand pilot expertise in combat and attack missions, ensuring readiness for modern and complex security environments.
