US Army Awards Palantir $127M for AI-Powered TITAN Trucks
The U.S. Army has placed $192 million in combined orders with Palantir and Anduril for eight TITAN systems, moving the AI-enabled battlefield intelligence program from prototyping into initial production.
The U.S. Army has awarded Palantir Technologies and Anduril Industries contracts totaling $192 million to produce eight AI-enabled Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node systems, marking TITAN's move from prototyping into production.
The initial order covers four Advanced and four Basic variants scheduled for delivery over the next 18 months.
The new systems will join nine prototypes already retained by the Army for operational use.
Palantir Takes Prime Role
Palantir received $127 million as prime contractor, overseeing production and supplying the software underpinning TITAN.
Anduril was awarded $65 million to manufacture and integrate the ruggedized hardware, including mission shelters and subsystems for power, thermal management, controls and operators.
L3Harris Technologies, Sierra Nevada Corporation, Strategic Technology Consulting and World Wide Technology are also part of Palantir's team.
Anduril manufactures the vehicle-mounted hardware at its facility in Costa Mesa, California, where it has served as lead hardware systems architect for the program since 2021.
AI at the Center of Targeting
TITAN is designed as a mobile intelligence ground station able to combine battlefield information from space, high-altitude, aerial, and terrestrial sensors.
Its software analyzes and fuses those feeds into a common intelligence picture while automating target nominations.
The Army's objective is to reduce the time between detecting a target and providing information to units that can engage it.
The system supports the service's Multi-Domain Operations and Long-Range Precision Fires efforts, while contributing to broader Joint All-Domain Operations.
Col. Jonathan Lipscomb, project manager for Intelligence Systems and Analytics, said TITAN was shaped by four years of soldier feedback across different operating environments.
“TITAN is a key solution that enhances the speed of target recognition and geolocation from multiple sensors. It drastically reduces sensor-to-shooter timelines through automated target nominations while fusing the common intelligence picture.”
The platform is also intended to function in Denied, Degraded, Intermittent and Limited environments. When cloud connections or higher-level intelligence sources are unavailable, it can draw directly on local sensors.
Two Variants Enter Production
The heavier Advanced variant provides greater processing and integration capacity, including the ability to handle space-derived sensor information.
It is generally mounted on the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles and is intended for formations including corps-level units, military intelligence brigades and multi-domain commands.
The Basic version emphasizes mobility and rapid deployment for division-level operations.
It is mounted on Joint Light Tactical Vehicles and Infantry Squad Vehicle-Utility platforms.
Other configurations have also been displayed as the Army considers additional vehicle options.
From Prototypes to Initial Fleet
The production decision follows several years of testing and development.
Palantir defeated RTX in the competition for TITAN and received a $178.4 million other-transaction agreement in 2024 to deliver 10 prototypes.
Earlier systems were tested in the Pacific and Europe starting in 2022.
Operational feedback led to design refinements, including environmental engineering changes after humidity-related issues were identified in the Philippines.
An early TITAN version was delivered to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, in 2024, while prototypes have since appeared in several vehicle configurations.
The latest order establishes the first production batch after that testing phase.
Palantir USG president Akash Jain said the system's software-defined architecture was intended to allow continuing changes as technology evolves.
“What's so cool about being software-defined, and bending the metal around the software, is your ability to continue to innovate, especially as technology has changed significantly,” Jain said.
The Army is expected to place additional TITAN production orders in fiscal 2027.
