Mike Huckabee Calls Iran War Opposition ‘Spiritual Darkness’

Mike Huckabee describes criticism of U.S. action against Iran as “spiritual darkness” and says Satan has blinded people’s thinking. The remarks come from an October podcast exchange about European governments’ response.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee casts opposition to American military intervention against Iran in religious terms, arguing that the disagreement goes beyond geopolitics in an interview released by Behold Israel on October 23.

The exchange, circulated in video clips on November 7, takes place on The Anchor Podcast with host Amir Tsarfati. Introducing the episode, Tsarfati says it was recorded in Jerusalem. The date of the recording is not specified.

The immediate subject is European governments’ criticism of U.S. action against Iran, following a broader discussion of Americans’ understanding of the Iranian threat. Huckabee does not identify a particular congressional vote, lawmaker or antiwar organization in that passage.

A Spiritual Explanation for Opposition

At about 34 minutes into the interview, Tsarfati criticizes European governments for failing to appreciate the military action. Huckabee says an incident involving Diego Garcia should have prompted them to reassess the threat, but that they continued to think the United States should not have intervened.

Tsarfati then asks whether that response is a mental problem. Huckabee calls it a spiritual issue, acknowledging that the language might sound unusual coming from an ambassador.

“I see this as spiritual darkness, spiritual blindness,” Huckabee says.

After Tsarfati interjects with a reference to delusion, Huckabee continues: “Satan has blinded the minds of those and has captured their thinking.”

“I really do believe that there is something deeper than just the obvious geopolitical issues at bay,” he adds.

The remarks set out Huckabee’s religious interpretation of the disagreement. They are not an announcement of a new military operation or a change in Washington’s policy toward Tehran.

Americans’ Perception of the Iranian Threat

The religious exchange follows Huckabee’s argument that Iran poses a direct threat to the United States, not only to Israel. He points to the Iranian leadership’s hostility toward Washington since the 1979 revolution and portrays America as its principal target.

He says geographical distance has left many Americans insufficiently concerned. Recalling the September 11 attacks, he argues that a sense of security can leave the country unprepared.

That discussion is the wider backdrop to his criticism of Europe. It does not establish that he was referring to every person opposed to the war, or that all opposition arose from the same motive.

Missile Claims Drive the European Argument

Huckabee also claims that Iran increased its ballistic-missile range from 2,000 kilometers to 4,100 kilometers between the summer of 2025 and spring of 2026. He argues that this would place European capitals within reach.

Tsarfati connects the discussion to an attempted Iranian strike on Diego Garcia, and Huckabee agrees. The ambassador presents the episode as a warning that European governments should have taken more seriously.

Those figures and the interpretation of the Diego Garcia incident are claims made in the interview. The exchange itself does not provide technical evidence establishing Iran’s operational missile range or its ability to strike each of the European cities Huckabee names.

Faith and the Message to Trump

The wider conversation repeatedly connects Huckabee’s religious convictions with his account of U.S.-Israeli relations. He discusses his Christian faith, visits to Israel and opposition to the theological view that the church has replaced Israel in God’s covenant.

A central part of the episode concerns a private message he sent President Donald Trump on June 17, 2025, before U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump subsequently made the message public.

The text, reproduced at the time by CBS19 in reporting credited to Reagan Roy and The Associated Press, encouraged Trump to listen to God and expressed confidence in his judgment. Huckabee also pledged to remain at his diplomatic post.

In the podcast, Huckabee says his intention was to encourage the president rather than tell him which decision to make. The interview does not independently establish that the message caused Trump to authorize military action.

He also describes close U.S.-Israeli military coordination, including mutual aerial refueling and personnel working together in an operations center. These are his descriptions of the partnership, rather than a new operational briefing.

An October Interview Amid a Continuing Policy Debate

The timing matters: the comments circulating on November 7 come from an episode published two weeks earlier, not a newly announced response to the latest deliberations in Washington.

Separately, NBC News reportedly says advisers are urging Trump to consider renewed major operations within eight weeks, before Democrats take control of Congress in January. That account describes internal pressure and disagreement, not a final presidential decision.

Trump has meanwhile described the confrontation as a minor military operation rather than a war, while acknowledging limited strikes and saying talks with Tehran remain open.

Huckabee’s podcast remarks address how he interprets opposition to intervention. They supply neither a timetable for further strikes nor evidence that the administration has settled the choice between escalation and diplomacy.
