The United States plans to hold direct nuclear talks with Iran in Oslo next week, Axios reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources. The rare engagement comes as Washington tries to de-escalate tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and amid growing global concern over Iran’s advancing enrichment program.

The planned Oslo meeting reflects U.S. efforts to revive dialogue with Tehran after months of military brinkmanship. While Iran has recently restricted IAEA access to its nuclear sites, its officials insist the country remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its safeguards agreement.

Details of the agenda remain unclear, but analysts expect Washington to press for limits on enrichment activities and greater transparency.

The announcement follows a string of regional flashpoints, including Operation Midnight Hammer, the U.S.-Israel attack that reportedly delayed Iran’s nuclear timeline by up to two years. The U.S. has also imposed fresh sanctions targeting Iran’s oil trade and Hezbollah networks.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said future cooperation with nuclear inspectors will be channeled through the Supreme National Security Council for security reasons.
