An aide to Murphy confirmed the stroke to POLITICO on Sunday, Nov. 1. His staff had begun notifying people on Saturday afternoon, a person told the outlet at the time.
What His Office Said
Chief of staff Allison Herwitt said in a statement that Murphy felt numbness in his arm on Saturday afternoon. He was at his son’s hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had suffered a stroke.
Murphy was then transferred to Johns Hopkins “for further monitoring,” Herwitt said. She said he “is responding well to treatment” and that “he is awake and alert.”
“The doctors are encouraged by his progress,” she said. She added: “we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”
The statement, as published by POLITICO, does not name the local hospital. It does not say when Murphy might return to work.
Campaign Travel and Midterms
POLITICO describes Murphy as a potential 2028 White House candidate. He has been traveling the country to campaign for candidates, with recent stops in Michigan, Minnesota and Florida. He had been scheduled to attend events in New Hampshire on Sunday.
The U.S. midterm elections are on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Clash Report has tracked Democrats’ generic-ballot lead. Days ago, Murphy said after an Iran briefing that Trump’s strategy is “insane”.
