Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight on Thursday, killing at least 11 people and injuring 54 including two children. Explosions shook the capital for hours.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko put the death toll at 11 and said 20 residential buildings were damaged.

Zelensky Cuts Short Dublin Visit

President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials issued warnings before the attack began, prompting residents to shelter in metro stations.

Zelenskyy cut short a visit to Dublin, where Ireland was starting its six-month term holding the rotating EU presidency.

Moscow Frames Strikes as Retaliation

Russia's Defence Ministry said on Telegram that it struck military and energy facilities around Kyiv, as well as military airports in Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions as a retaliation for Ukraine's strikes on civilian infrastructure in Russia.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha rejected that framing, saying Ukraine was exercising self-defense under Article 51 of the U.N. Charter.

Buildings Collapse Across Multiple Districts

Six floors of an apartment building partially collapsed after a direct hit; AP reported the collapse affecting six of nine stories in the Darnytskyi district, with a separate five-story building also damaged.

The Premier Palace Hotel in central Kyiv also caught fire after a Russian Shahed drone strike, adding to the damage recorded across the capital's districts.

A 16-story building caught fire on its roof in the Holosiivskyi district, and people were trapped in the Sviatoshynskyi and Desnianskyi districts.
