Rep. Robert Garcia, poised to chair the House Oversight Committee, issued a two-word warning after Democrats’ projected House win. “Lawyer up,” he posted on X late Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
Committee Democrats then released an official statement calling Garcia the incoming chairman. Its full text from Garcia was the same two words.
Trump Family, ICE and Epstein Files
The statement said Garcia has vowed to take on the “Trump Crime Family” and corporate corruption. It also listed “DHS and ICE abuses” and “the cover-up of the Epstein files.”
Garcia is currently the committee’s ranking member, its top Democrat. The chairmanship would become formal when the new Congress convenes in January.
Garcia represents a Long Beach-area district in California. He posted about an hour after the House projection.
A Projected Democratic Majority
Decision Desk HQ projected on Tuesday night that Democrats will win the House. Control of the chamber would hand Democrats committee gavels and subpoena power.
President Donald Trump has said he would use his veto and “tremendous powers” if Democrats win.
