Democrats will win control of the US House of Representatives, Decision Desk HQ projected on Tuesday night. The call came at 9:09 p.m. ET on Nov. 3, 2026.
The projection would end the Republican majority in the chamber. Many races were still being counted, and polls remained open in western states, including California.
A Night of Democratic Gains
Decision Desk HQ had projected a string of Democratic House wins earlier in the evening. These included North Carolina’s 11th District and Pennsylvania’s 8th District, both held by Republicans before the vote.
In the Senate, Democrats held seats in Virginia and Georgia. Decision Desk HQ projected that Jon Ossoff won reelection in Georgia.
In Florida, Democrat Jared Moskowitz won reelection in a redrawn district that Trump carried by 9 points. Decision Desk HQ also projected a win for Democrat Pia Dandiya in Florida’s 22nd District.
What It Means for Trump
A Democratic House would shape the last two years of President Donald Trump’s term. Democrats would control House committees, including their power to issue subpoenas. They could also block Republican legislation.
Trump has said he would use his veto and “tremendous powers” if Democrats win. Control of the Senate had not yet been projected.
