Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s main super PAC have put well over $770 million into Republicans this midterm cycle. A viral figure of $643 million combined understates it.
Musk has given $474 million, The New York Times reported. Trump’s MAGA Inc. reported $300.5 million in disbursements through Oct. 14, CNBC reported.
What the Records Show
The Times counts Musk’s disclosed donations to federal and state groups since Jan. 1, 2025, citing Federal Election Commission data. About $216 million went to his own America PAC.
He gave $168 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and $30 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund. Another $44 million went to other Republican groups and $16 million to state groups.
Other tallies differ slightly by cutoff date. OpenSecrets counted more than $445 million, and The Guardian reported $483 million.
Trump’s Side of the Ledger
MAGA Inc. reported $300.5 million in disbursements through Oct. 14 and $164.3 million still in the bank, CNBC reported. It sent $200 million to No Going Back PAC and $25 million to Safety & Affordability PAC.
Trump wrote on Oct. 20 that he will spend “over 400 Million Dollars” by Election Day, USA Today reported. Transfers between his groups are not all ad spending yet.
Musk’s $474 million plus MAGA Inc.’s $300.5 million gives about $775 million, with later filings pending. At Trump’s own $400 million, the total passes $870 million.
Where $643 Million Comes From
We found no source for a combined Trump-Musk total of $643 million. The number matches two unrelated counts.
AdImpact projected that the Senate Leadership Fund network would run about $643 million in ads, The Times reported. Musk gave that fund $168 million.
The FEC also logged $643.4 million in independent expenditures through June 30, according to [a Political Group analysis]({PG}). Neither figure is a Trump-plus-Musk total.
What the Money Is Buying
Musk’s biggest single push backs Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race. He gave the Senate Leadership Fund $158 million for that effort over the summer, USA Today reported. We covered his PAC relaunch.
The spending has not removed Republican risk. Democrats lead or tie in all seven Senate battlegrounds in final polls, as we covered. The midterms are Tuesday, Nov. 3.
