LFI Unveils Mélenchon’s 2027 Program, Pledging NATO Exit and Retirement at 60

Mélenchon’s 2027 program, unveiled by France Unbowed (LFI), sets out 1,069 measures. It pairs ecological planning with retirement at 60, NATO withdrawal and a 100% renewable target by 2060.

France’s hard-left La France Insoumise (LFI) has put a full government platform behind its presidential candidate, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, about five months before the April 2027 vote.

The fifth edition of “L’Avenir en commun” went on sale on Friday, November 6, priced at €4.90. Mélenchon is presenting it on Saturday at a large rally in Le Bourget, north of Paris.

LFI Program Counts 1,069 Measures, 238 of Them New

The 212-page book contains 1,069 measures, according to the party. LFI says 238 are new and 118 have been modified, drawing on some 24,000 citizen contributions and about 30 hearings with unions, NGOs and experts.

MPs Clémence Guetté and Hadrien Clouet coordinated the text. “Tout notre programme est structuré autour de la planification écologique, c’est le point de départ de notre action,” Clouet told AFP — the whole program is built around ecological planning.

LFI national coordinator Manuel Bompard described the update to AFP as “de la précision, de l’enrichissement” — precision and enrichment rather than a break with past editions. Full costing is due in early 2027.

Mélenchon Plans Retirement at 60 and a €1,700 Minimum Wage

On pensions, LFI would scrap President Emmanuel Macron’s 2023 reform, which raised the legal age from 62 to 64. The program first restores 62, then a full-rate pension at 60 after 40 years of contributions.

It keeps the party’s signature economic pledges: a net monthly minimum wage of €1,700, a freeze on prices of essential goods and “100% Sécu,” meaning full social security coverage of healthcare. BFMTV reports that the same health chapter also lets workers self-declare short sick leave without a doctor’s note.

Working time measures include restoring the 35-hour week in practice and moving to 32 hours in arduous and night jobs, according to summaries of the platform.

Wealth Tax Returns Alongside a Billionaire Levy

LFI would restore the wealth tax (ISF), abolished in 2018 and replaced by a narrower property tax, adding a “climate” component, French parliamentary channel LCP reports.

The platform also keeps the so-called Zucman tax, a minimum levy on billionaires’ fortunes, as well as a 14-bracket income tax, a €12 million cap on inheritance and a maximum pay ratio of 1 to 20 inside companies.

LFI Puts Ecology First With Nuclear Exit by 2060

Ecological planning now opens the program. LFI wants a “green rule” in the Constitution, barring the state from taking more from nature than it can regenerate, and a planning council to oversee the relocation of essential production.

The party still plans to leave nuclear power and fossil fuels and reach 100% renewable energy “by 2060 at the latest,” pushing back the 2050 target of its 2022 platform. Nuclear power supplies the bulk of France’s electricity.

Voluntary military service would give way to a nine-month mandatory ecological civic service, paid at the minimum wage, for women and men under 25, LCP reports.

Mélenchon Program Pledges Immediate Exit From NATO Command

In foreign policy, the program calls for an “immediate” withdrawal from NATO’s integrated military command, followed by a step-by-step exit from the alliance itself, LCP reports.

France left the integrated command under Charles de Gaulle in 1966 and rejoined it in 2009 under Nicolas Sarkozy. LFI also rejects the 5% of GDP defence spending target pushed by Washington and pledges to “protect Greenland.”

Mélenchon has also said France should reject a German army after an AfD win, as Clash Report reported.

LFI Seeks Moratorium on EU Rules and Backs Two States

On Europe, LFI proposes rewriting EU treaties, including the statute of the European Central Bank, and a moratorium, voted by the French parliament, on EU rules covering unrestricted movement of goods and capital, competition rules for public services, European defence and free-trade deals. It says it will accept “confrontation” with EU institutions and put any new agreement to a referendum, Courrier International reports.

On Israel and Palestine, the program reaffirms the two-state solution while opening the way to recognition of an egalitarian binational state, and calls for enforcement of the International Criminal Court arrest warrant against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Public Sénat reports.

Mélenchon has repeatedly accused Israel of interfering in French politics, as Clash Report reported.

Mélenchon Heads Into a Fourth Presidential Run

Mélenchon, 75, ran in 2012, 2017 and 2022, finishing third last time with nearly 22% of the first-round vote. LFI says the platform reached close to 8 million voters in 2022.

Other democratic reforms include a vote at 16, compulsory voting and recognition of blank ballots. The campaign has unveiled a new poster with the slogan “Liberté, égalité, solidarité.”

The launch comes amid continuing street tension in France, including recent clashes in Paris.
