Israeli Diaspora Minister: War on Syria an Absolute Certainty

A senior Israeli official has declared a future military offensive against Syria to be an absolute certainty, signaling a potential expansion of regional hostilities.

Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli characterized the neighboring country as a highly volatile front, asserting that armed conflict there is inescapable.

“Syria is Gaza on steroids, and that is the next war, with absolute certainty. There is no avoiding it,” the Likud party member stated.

These declarations align with previous rhetoric from June, where Chikli warned that a military campaign against Damascus would eventually happen.

At the time, he claimed that both Syria and Türkiye present a significantly more severe challenge to Israeli strategic interests than Iran.

Denouncing the Washington-Tehran Pact

Chikli’s aggressive posture toward Damascus back in June was after the memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran.

That diplomatic agreement, shaped by regional mediators, was designed to freeze active hostilities across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.

The Israeli minister dismissed these diplomatic de-escalation efforts, directing particular scrutiny toward the nations facilitating the Washington-Tehran dialogue.

He specifically identified an emerging diplomatic coalition, accusing Islamabad, Doha, and Ankara of orchestrating the bilateral pact.

Describing the alignment as "an extremely dangerous radical Sunni axis," Chikli noted that this regional coordination alarmed him more than the potential economic rehabilitation of Iran following years of sanctions.

Expanding Regional Operations

The threat of a Syrian offensive reflects a broader pattern of escalating military engagements by Israel across the Middle East.

Since October 2023, Israeli forces have launched continuous campaigns, including extensive military operations in the Gaza Strip, where it faces accusations of genocide, and distinct offensives against Lebanon and Iran.

The government has simultaneously executed targeted strikes on territory in Syria, Yemen, and Qatar.

The state of Israel was established in 1948 on occupied Palestinian land and continues to maintain long-standing territorial occupations in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.

Despite mounting international pressure and binding UN resolutions, authorities routinely reject mandates to withdraw forces or permit the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
